Default Best performance mods for 1340 Evo motor?

Hi, I have just picked up a NEW 1340 Evo factory motor for my chopped softail. I plan on getting an aftermarket S&S air kit and decent pipes.

I am looking for simple, bang for the buck performance mods to give me good useable power.

What is the best cam and the best carb for this motor?

Thanks.

Have the heads ported/polished, then have them shaved down a bit to set the compression at 10:1. Put in a Woods 6 cam and you'll be very happy. A Mikuni 42mm carb will also help out a lot as well.

2-1 exhaust will bring it all together.

As Steve has mentioned, a Bob Wood 6, along with the proper cylinder head mods, will IN FACT, be the biggest bang for the dollar spent.
Even with the OE CV carb, tuned, it'll hover at 80 hp and 90 ft/lbs, run smoother, and you will also experience great fuel economy as the VE will come way up on that.

Thanks for the info, sounds good.

But if I dont want to do headwork and high compression, what are the best mods you can do before you get to that stage?

Thanks.

Just doing a bolt-in cam with a 2-1 exhaust will wake it up a bit. If you aren't going to do head work or increase compression.........I would say like an Andrews EV27.

I just did this for a friends bike this past winter, sent the heads to Big Boyz for porting/polishing and a bump in compression to 9.5:1, put on a Mikuni 42mm carb, he already had the Andrews EV27 installed. He's very happy with the results as it woke the bike up a lot.

OK thanks. Is the Andrews EV27 a gear driven cam?

Also, I dont have a carb at all.... which one do you suggest to go with just Andrews cam?

Thanks, never heard of that cam before, will look into it. Also, I don't have a carb at all.... is it better to buy a genuine CV carb or aftermarket?

Get a mikuni hsr 42 carb and a andrews 27 cam as stated above for what you are wanting to do. Also a 2 into 1 exhaust as stated above.I would also get a k&n type air filter and adjustable pushrods. All evo cams are gear driven.

All Evo's have a geared cam, as well as Shovels, Pan's, Knuckles, Flats, Iron, and Evo XL's.
Wood 6, CV carb, jetted 46-48 pilot, 170-175 main, air/idle 3 turns out.
Only heads mods that you would do to enhance the Andrews or Wood cams, would be to have a performance valve job done, and have them re-surfaced.
