Default Showa 35mm fork seals leaking

Well, after replacing the fork seals twice before and having them continue to leak, this weekend I totally rebuilt the forks on my '79 FXE. New springs, new damper tubes and new seals. The ride is certainly improved, but the seals are still leaking. I must be doing something wrong. Here's the question: how far down the inside of the slider are the seals supposed to go? I've been putting them in just far enough to clear the retaining ring but no further. Maybe they should be pushed further down inside the slider, to the point where the inside diameter of the slider decreases? I'm getting tired of those darn seals leaking? Help!
