I did my stage I with the SE super tuner and air cleaner with V&H pipes and it made a huge difference. Definitely do the dyno, but my bike has a noticeable power increase and it changed my rev limit to 7000.

It is your money ... and what I think is worth the money may not be the same as what you think is worth the money. A Stage 1 gets you a little more HP and TQ for the money ... more than a stock bike ... but not as much as a stage 2.

In terms of $$$ ... are you going to install the parts yourself? That's money saved on labor. How much money do you think a Stage 1 is worth?

I have a carb model, so the Stage 1 is about $280.00 cheaper than an EFI model since I do not need an air/fuel control module. Also, the bike was under warranty at the time, so I was talked into using HD to install the parts to avoid any warranty issues.

Hindsight ... I would probably still have done the Stage 1, but would have done the install myself. I installed the V&H Shortshots $325.00, Kuryakyn Corsair A/C $280.00, Keihin Jet Kit $39.00, and used HD labor $300.00. A total of $944.00 spent ... with self install this figure would have been around $615.00 (this price would have been more worth it if you ask me).

IMO, If you want your bike to run better do the upgrade. If you are looking to impress someone by performing the upgrade, you should probably find something more worthwhile to spend your money on.

I haven't done it yet, but am planning on it. I have a carb model so it will be cheaper and I already have upgraded pipes installed. From what I hear, it is called the "Harley Tax", and is the price you have to pay to make the bike run the way it should run. If your current performance is fine with you, then just go with upgraded pipes to make the bike at least sound like a Harley.

I did stage 1 on my 08 nightster w/vance&hines side shots, SE High flow Air filter, and screamin eagle super tuner installed. Im in colorado so with the altitude i only gained 20hp from 65hp-85.76hp, 98.62hp when corrected to sea level, 73.14-81.42torque, 93.63 when corrected to sea level. Definatley worth the money and the bike runs alot cooler, eliminated alot of the pinging in the engine.

I put cycle shack tapered on my 08 1200C and noticed loss in power and had some popping. Had the stage 1 done and it made a huge difference. Runs cooler, smoother and with excellent acceleration. Whether it's worth the money is a person issue. I am glad I had it done.

IMO NO, the HD SE Stage 1 kit is not worth it, if you're talking about the "dealer installed package". The SE A/C with its plastic backplate is really a piece of junk IMO and there are many exhaust options out there other than EPA SE-II's.

Now, is doing Stage 1 worth it? Absolutely, but don't get sucked into using the "stealer" package.

Holy crap! Thats a huge jump in power. Is that right? I guess you had it tuned on a dyno? Is that normal? Thats a lot of extra power. Would you get the same results from a Power Commander, or a Vance and Hines Fuel Pack?

Not to burst your bubble but, the guy running the dyno either didn't know what he was doing, or he did know what he was doing and blew smoke up your....where the sun don't shine, by incorrectly dialing in the dyno. Those numbers aren't possible with the pieces/parts you've installed on a factory 1200. Sorry.....
