I have concluded my voltage regulator is bad and will be replacing soon. I am wondering if I should go ahead and do both..Bike only has 1300 miles on it (not under warranty anymore) if that makes any difference at all...

I am also looking at aftermarket regulators and stators, has anyone had any luck with a certain brand??

 

If the regulator is bad, just change it there is no reason to change any other parts unless you find them bad too. Harley had a recall on some 06' voltage regulators. Personally, I like OEM electrical parts.

 

great opportunity to upgrade to an OEM chrome voltage regulator ... pay a little extra but really dresses up the lower section of the bike ...

 

I think mine may be bad. How did you narrow it down to the voltage regulator?? What were the symptoms?

 

if you're going to change both, I recommend the cycle electric 38a charging system. it cost about $350 or so, and it's a better design. my factory regulator went out at 11k miles. I put the cycle electric system on and have 7k miles with no problems. 1300 miles and out of warranty? don't ride much, eh?

 

Need some help!

I have a 2007 Road Glide(10,000 miles) and the battery would not charge so put a new battery in. That did not fix the problem. I took it to an HD dealer and they checked the Voltage Reg. and the Stator and determined it was the Stator, so I had it replaced. But it seems there is still a problem, the in-dash volt meter is still not showing a positive charge all of the time. Sometimes it is and sometimes it is not charging.

Could the Voltage reg. still be bad?(even though the HD service tech said it was ok?)

What else could the problem be?

I just changed my Stator on my 91 FLSTC but did not change the regulator and it's charging at 14.5V. Would anyone recommend changing the regulator?
