I'm kinda' leaning with Plane on this one (in theory anyway). I have read a lot of independent testing of filter material in automotive applications. Many of them show no appreciable flow advantage over a CLEAN paper filter in a relatively stock engine. The advantages all seem to show up in airbox and intake track modifications or improvements that may come with a "filter kit". The other advantages come with long term re-usability and effectiveness when wet (a definite motorcycle concern) as paper filters become completely obstructed when wet.
I am going to have to do some more research on this one. Thanks Plane, you have asked a really interesting question.
