Default Clutch hub removal

I got my friends 73 superglide the other day. I am trying to pull the clutch hub off the mainshaft. I have a large 3 jaw puller on it but it dosen't budge. the hub is distorted from the puller so it will be replaced. How has anyone else got a stubborn one off? thanks

They make a puller for HD clutch hubs. Yours is probably frozen on. Generally they can be gotten off by putting pressure on the puller, then whacking the center bolt with a hammer, putting a little more pressure, whacking, etc. Unless it's completely rusted/galled to the shaft, it'll suddenly pop off and scare the crap outten ya. Some heat might help, but be careful not to ruin the temper of the shaft.

you can make a puller for the clutch hub if you have a round piece of steel laying around, just drill clearance holes for the studs on the hub and drill and tap a hole in the center for a 1/2" x 13 bolt. Take the nuts off of the studs on the hub, put the puller on and replace the nuts. Take a long 1/2" bolt and grind about a 60 degree angle on the end and screw into the center of the puller. It will push up against the center of the mainshaft and pop the clutch hub off. The end of the mainshaft and the inside of the clutch hub are a matched taper with just a piece of keystock and keyway to keep it from spinning.

Had the same problem on my 76. Spent $30 on a puller from J&P and it makes life a lot easier.

I got the hub off with my puller and heat. Now I think the end of the mainshaft is distorted. The hole for the pushrod is off center. My guess is I'm now rebilding the transmission . My question now is where is a good place for used transmission parts? thanks.
