That is the shortest distance and as much interstate highway as possible. I understand that the route will actually be 7000 miles and the first check point will be in Mississippi. The MapQuest route does not come close to Mississippi, it takes you straight up through Georgia into Tennessee.

I would love to be on the team selecting the route, that would be fun!
John Ryan rode 5,598 miles from Prudhoe Bay to Key West in 86 hours 31 minutes this past June 6-9. That is total elapsed time start to finish including the infamous James Dalton Highway (Haul Road) - 414 miles of gravel and mud made even slicker from the calcium chloride used to control dust. It was snowing, sleeting and raining when John covered the distance in 8 hours and 2 minutes. A lot of flat track style riding to average over 50 mph in that sh*t.
