Default 1985 FXWG Stock Photos

I am looking to restore a 1985 FXWG to all stock, but I don't have any original photos.

The bike I have is mostly stock.

I just need the original seat, air cleaner and pipes.

Here is my question, since I don't have any good original photos.

Is this the stock gas cap, with this "made in USA logo"?

That is what is on it now.

I am the original owner of my 1985 FXWG.
I have the original HD sales brochure for the 1985 FX models in my hands as I type this.
It has a good color picture of the left side of the bike, an overhead picuture of the whole bike and a front-on shot. All pictures show it in candy red with gold pinstripe. Other color options were vivid black with gold pinstripe, and candy burgandy and slate gray two-tone with gold pinstripe (thats how mine was). All had a round Harley logo with a big wing in gold on both sides of the tanks. All had solid color fenders with no stripes, even the two-tone had solid burgandy fenders.

the emblem on that gas cap is not stock original. it looks like the original type gas cap, but stock had no emblem stuck on it.

I have the complete original air cleaner, but its not on my bike now.
I have the complete original exhaust system, but not on the bike now.
I have the original seat, but its been reupholstered in leather and snake skin, not on bike now.
I have many other stock original parts that are not on the bike now.

Thank PJB!

It's good you kept the original parts, most people don't.

The 85-86 FXWG is a great bike. It looks great, has an EVO, and a kick start too.

Unlike classic cars, bikes are easier to restore, they don't require big wrenches, they are easy to move around, they don't take up alot of space, they don't rust away, and if it falls on you when your working on it, it won't kill you.

What about the battery cover? I have this chrome cover, but from the pictures I've have seen, it seems like there should only be a top cover on the battery.

top cover only would be stock original.

Thanks PJB,

I have another question for you.

I found what appears to be the stock sissy bar, but Im not sure.

Is the stock sissy bar welded to the brackets?

Does the stock sissy bar cushion have a harley davidson logo embedded on it?

Also, let me know if you have any stock parts you would like to sell.

Thanks again.

Thanks.

You seem to have a stock sissy bar not sure about the pad though because I changed mine years ago. The bar is welded to the mounting brackets and there is a HD emblem on the back that screws into the bar. I have a pic of mine when it was stock but my scanner is down at the moment. Mine has gone through some changes in the last 24 years that I've had it. I still even have the original bill of sale for it.

That is correct - the sissybar is welded to the side plates and there is a small raised bar and shield on the back of the pad bracket (it actually covers the pad mounting bolt), I still have the original. sissy par pad was plain smooth vinyl, as was the seat. they did sell a pad with a logo stamped in it, but it would not have been stock original.

let me know what parts you need and I'll let you know what I have. I have a lot of stock original parts that are no longer on the bike. I have a complete set have genuine HD tanks and fenders that were factory custom order painted in about 1988, in great shape.

my 85 FXWG looked like this from about 1995 till a couple of months ago.

I took off all the yellow painted stuff and put on stretched tanks, stock type bobbed rear fender, spray canned flat black. removed the pipes and put on staggered drags with header wrap. no front fender. solo seat. wanted a whole different look and I like the result. I'll try to get a new picture up.

wow pjb, it looks like a show bike. Mine is mostly stock and a little rust and dust.

Rust is the new chrome

too bad that won't fit on a license plate.
