Default se 255 vs. S&S 510

Want to upgrade my 2007 Road Glide cam - have V&H fuelpak, K&N HP air filter and V&H true duals. Suggested that I try an SE 255 or S&S 510 - any suggestions or advice?

The 255's work great with my 103", and I hear they work well with the 96" also. If I were going to change the cam on an out of warranty bike I would put in a gear driven set. Just my .02 cents.

I have a 08 Ultra setup just like yours. Had stage one with VH Big shot true duals and fuel pak. Put 255 in replaced the fuelpak with a PCV from Fuelmoto. Runs great, dont have to down shift to pass when cruising at 60 in sixth. Not worried about getting it on the dino. Unless someone wants to pay to see my numbers. Bottom line I am happy a realitively cheap upgrade. I also had to replace the lifters my bike had over 40k. Looking around for deals on lifters, used cams (sometimes) and new bearings and pushrods. Less then $300.

The S&S 510's where recommended to me by a very respected builder , Kendall Johnson , but I went with the 255's and am very happy with them! IMO gear drives in a 07 and up bike is a waist of money!

Did you have to change the fuel pak for the 255s?

I have 510g on my 95inch motor and am very happy with them reliability was the issue with the old shoes thats why I went gear drive. I have se255 on my 96in motor and am very pleased with them also. Both have great tq and immediate response to throttle. with the 96in motor save some money and pick up the 255 I agree with THABUll gear drive in the new setup is not necessary.

I also have the 510g from s&s. They are ok through the powerband but seem to Turn ON around 2800 to the top. Of couse I didn't realize this untill after my break in on my 95 inch kit. This allows me to roll on the throtttle at highway speeds and get to where I need to be going. If I had to do it again, id probably go with some woods t-6 cams since they have been proven to have more bite from the bottom to the top. There's always next year!

Could you not get a map for the 255 from V&H?
