I had the 103 kit put in, along with new pipes, cams, valve springs, & clutch spring, all for just under a grand (labor costs). Mech told me it takes about 12 hours to complete...
What are typical labor charges at HD dealer for Big Bore Kit installs?
Shop that did my stage II 103 kit ran a "winter special" from November 09 through Feb 10. Price parts and labor was $2000, included stage II 103 kit with SE 255 cams, SE clutch spring, new lifters, SE Super Tuner, dyno before the build, break in on the dyno and tuning after the build. They also installed a D&D Boss Fatcat and SE stage I air filter with zippers' upgrade that I provided and added an SE oil cooler for the touring models and manual compression releases. Total out the door with the adds and added labor came to just under $2700. Figures out that I saved about $1600 compared to "list" price.
Bike before build made 68 hp and 84 tq, after build makes 92 hp and 106 tq. Very glad I took the plunge.
You may find it worth your while to ride the bike as is until the fall of the year unless pressing repairs prompt your question.
I just did mine myself, it isn't that hard and it took 2 days. The local dealer said they would do it for $750. I put in the 103 SE kit with SE255 cams and SE Kompressor heads. I paid $1190 for the parts and $267 to have compression releases installed and a complete chrome bolt engine kit. I also installed a PC5 with auto tune. It's been raining so I haven't been able to ride it much and only have 44 miles on the build.
