Another bad voltage regulator!
Now this is suspicious.
About 7 months or so ago my voltage regulator went bad.
I replaced it and everything has been fine but lately I've been seeing my voltage drop down to like 12 volts and then go back up to the 13/14 range where it usually runs. Does this every once in a while it seems.
I tested the regulator and it seems to be bad again. Could I have gotten a bad one or is something sucking their lives up? lol
Any ideas? I Pmd Dawg as he helped me the last time also!
The stator tested fine so far.

Need to check your stator again and also check the comp nut to make sure it is tight. When a comp nut gets loose the rotor doesnt have a clamp load on it and rocks around until it beats the splines out of it. At that point it is overcome my the magnets and doesnt put out a full charge.

But if I'm getting voltage to the pins inside the plug
on VR then its bad correct?
I touch the negative test lead to a ground and the positive lead to either contact inside the plug and I'm getting battery voltage.
Shouldnt be like that correct?
When I'm driving should that voltage stay on 14v (all the time) or does it change depending on load and stuff? Maybe there's nothing wrong and I'm jumping the gun here.
Suppose to go to Leesburg Bike Fest this weekend and now not sure what to do!

OK I put my meter accross the battery terminals and started the bike and got 13.7 volts at around 3500 rpm.
Unplugged the stator and started bike and tested the plug towards the stator and got 48 volts A/C somewhere around 2000 rpm. (wife couldn't hold rpm steady)
Everything seems normal doesn't it?
But thats not to say the voltage is staying up constantly right.
I mean does that voltage guage on dash stay at 14volts all the time when cruising or does it move at all?

Voltage output will depend on RPM's and load.it shouldnt move when you are cruising..if it does..kinda sounds like a loose ground somewhere.. it will drop a bit when you are idling of course...
