Default Paint color codes

I have a 96 FLSTC that is a light blue color. I want to buy a Bat Wing fairing and paint it to match the rest of the bike. I did a search of HD paint colors and found a couple web sites with paint numbers and one that showed names of each color and a sample of each color.

However the site with the color samples had a disclaimer that said the color may not be an exact (or even close) match. As it was several looked exactly the same to me. Is there any way to find out what color the factory put on a particular bike? Cagers usually have a color code somewhere on the sheetmetal. Do Harleys?

Thanks in advance.

John

I don't know how to check to know the exact paint codes. Several years ago, a lady backed into my fender on my FXDL. Of course the fender had to be replaced....way to mangled up. Anyways, Harley was no help in finding the paint I needed. They said the paint was really rare.....Teal and light tan. I didn't think it was that rare. Anyways, I ended up using http://www.cyclecolor.com. I told them the bike, year, VIN, and somewhat described the color.....they sent me the exact paint I needed. Take a look at them......

Default The evel one

Check under the rear fender near the rear for a tag. Happened to see mine the other day. It's a '98 Sinister Blue Pearl FXSTS. I have painted for a number of years and this is what I'd do to insure a perfect match. Look for that tag{sticker}. Some models also have one under the front fender. Find your DuPont automotive paint supplier. Supply your info from the tag and have the stores paint mixer shoot your bike with the "Chroma Vision". It's complicated but the "CV" will alter the mix for a color match. It will even tell you how close a match can be expected. I shoot every car I paint with the Chroma Vision with excellent results. I've shot all the brands out there and some aren't bad. Color matching with DuPont is easiest for me and the results are far better than other brands..

Default Paint codes

You guys are awsome, thanks. Found the tags under the front and rear fenders that confirm the color as States Blue. Now for the Batwing and paint.

Thanks again
