Back again with another question. I am having a hard tim with the oil type for my 71 XLCH I know it takes a 60wt oil 70 wt if its hot out but I want to use quality stuff. Ive been told RevTech is a good product also would like ot find it online for sale so I can get it for a good price. I Want to do my own work on this bike so I am trying to get the researh part done so it wil be around for many years to come thanks in advance gang

 

I use the 60 weight oil from the HD dealer. I also just found some Eagle 60 weight racing oil on sale for 1.98 per quart at my local Auto Zone

Most guys recommend 50, or 60 for very hot climates. I have seen 70 recommended only a couple of times.

You could litterally spend the rest of your life reading internet oil threads and never get any riding done. Pick any good quality motorcycle specific oil stick with it.

For your year use the same oil in both the engine and the primary.

Just go to your nearest Harley dealer and buy some 60wt from them. You will do no better than that.

Nope, not at all. I ran 70wt for years because I could not find any 60wt oil anywhere.
Then one day about 10 years back the Harley dealer in town started to buy and stock it. I started immediately using the 60wt at that point.
Going to 70wt is far better than going to 50wt if you have to make that choice.

Here in "Artic Circle" I have mainly used, 20W-50 Valvoline Racing, about 10 years. Temperatures here are "little" lower than southern states, this morning I was riding to work and there was 48ºF and misty.
