Does anyone know how acurate the HD LED dip sticks are?

 

From what I have heard keep the cash and put an oil cooler on if you are that worried about oil temp. Seems those Dip Sticks only last through a few rainy days and are toast. Couple guys around here have them and one of them took a dump already. I think there is an analog one out there as well. Someone might have the link.

 

They updated the digital sticks without showing it. The original ones did have problems, the newer ones are better. I've had one for two years now, caught out in the rain many times, no problems. No oil seeping into the display, either. This is the only positive response you will get though, prepare for three pages of folks telling you how awful they are (and worse).

As to the accuracy, I've never tested the calibration so don't know.

 

My 2nd one just crapped out. 1st was the older model, 2nd was newer model. Both lasted about a year. 1st was replaced under warranty, we'll see about the 2nd on Wednesday.
Oh the question was accuracy- they are accurate until they fail

 

I like the way they look.

Mine seems to usually give an ERROR message but before that comes up I can read the temp and that the oil level is full by where it scrolls to. I don't know if the oil temp reading is accurate but I don't care. I've been riding motorcycles without oil temp gauges since Christ was a Corporal and never had a problem so I don't worry about the oil temperature. Oil level is what I check. Like I said, it does look good.

 

Don't buy it get an oil cooler instead. Had 2 in past no more.

 

found out, by watching the mechanic (indy) remove a digital
dipstick.....that he did not twist the stick to remove it, he rocked it back and forth...
which the instructions say is a no-no.
I am on my second one....which I think the original was not removed properly.
How accurate are they....well, I know that with cold oil.....from 28 degrees up top 80 degrees......I can press the button on the stick and the temp is the same as on my wall
thermometer. I have since, installed a oil temp gage in my fairing, and have tried to determine how the stick equates to the gage......and I can say, I trust the
stick alot more. The gage is so small..that minor needle movements can be 50 degrees or more. I am trying to figure out where the needle should be when it means "TOO HOT".
The stick....cost is a bit out of line, but when it works...it is fine.
I think maybe mechanics do not come accross them much, so maybe they do not remove them properly. Some owners may not know either?

I was going to pick up one last week and the parts guy at my HD shop talked me out of it. He said they have to many problems with them.

 

Same here. I was told to save my money. I like the idea of it, and not burning my hand, but no go so far.

 

I've had mine for 2-1/2yrs now and no problems.
