Default 02 Fatboy

I bought an 02 Fatboy that needs some work on the rear end. Will the sprocket for a Deuce fit because I can get one for pretty cheap. Also, is it okay that I've got a Sportster rear wheel on in lieu of the Fatboy solid? Any advice would be appreciated, plus, if anyone knows where I can get Harley parts for cheaper, that would help too. Thanks.

Stick with softail parts 00-06 except Duece.....

You can find a take off pulley for next to nothing on Ebay...

okay, i'm new to the harley family. forgive me for committing a taboo, i've got the opportunity to get some fatboy wheels, but they need to be 00' to 06'? I'm also not very technical, but i'm hoping to learn by doing this work by myself, takeoff pulley = rear sprocket? and when you say except the deuce, does that mean i should not get the "takeoff pulley" from the deuce?

For starters, the best tool to have is a service manual for your bike. Service manuals are generic for your bikes family, so you will want a 2002 Softail service manual. This is a must have for anyone who will do their own work, especially the inexperienced, and I have used mine many times.

As far as a sprocket/Pulley from a Duece, I dont see why it wouldnt fit.

I just searched HD and used a "Chrome Slotted Six-Spoke Billet Sprocket" as a reference. I searched on 2002 FLSTF, FLSTFI, FXSTD and FXSTDI and they all used the same part #, so that being said, the sprocket from an '02 Duece should fit your bike.

You do not want parts from an 07 and newer... In 07, the fat boy went to a 200mm rear wheel. Yours has a 150.

Many duece parts will not fit other softails.
The rear wheel on Fatboy 00-02 is different than 03-06. the offset is different, to allow for a 150mm tire. My advice, get the 03-06 rear wheel. The pulley is the same for 00-06. Do not reuse the bolts for the pulley or rotor, when you replace the wheel.

Yeah, i can't reuse them since they are what caused me to replace the wheel in the first place. Is it common for those bolts to shear off on the fatboy? I read earlier on someone elses post that when they were riding two up that they heard a grinding sound around that sprocket area. Looking back, it just so happened that when my bolts sheared off, it was after a day of riding two up...I was told that they may have been overtorked in the first place, weakening them, and over time they finally gave way, but how could I prevent this in the future, use something stronger than a grade 8??? Thanks for the help.

One more thing, costs are a big thing, is there a reccomended site or place that I can get discounted parts or just stick with ebay and craigslist?

Grade 8....Torqued properly and using the star pattern to tighten....Use Red loctite........They won't move...

This is what I meant by a takeoff........ Someone has changed their stock part to an aftermarket...Thus it is a take off....
