What's the difference between Baker DD6 and Revtech 6 speed gear set. Is there really any difference other than cost? I have 05 Ultra Classic with 5 speed and would like to upgrade to 6 speed, any suggestions?

 

One is the most expensive with a reputation to back it up,the other is the least expensive.

 

If I were gonna go with a 6 speed it would be a no brainer...Baker DD6. But I can't see spending close to 3k just for an extra gear. And I do a lot of highway riding too.

 

I read a review of 6 speeds a few years back, I think it was in American Iron. The Baker was top and the SE unit was second. I have the SE unit on my 06 RG and have no complaints. I am considering it for my 02 SERK.

 

Not bashing those 6 gear tranny's or the companies that make them but it won't be much of an upgrade with either one. You still end up with a 1:1 ratio in top gear (same as a 5 speed) and no increase in fuel mileage. I opted to stay with my 5 speed after a couple of buds went with 6 speeds (DD-6). We all get the same gas mileage and I shift one less gear. I saved about $2K that went into some motor mods. They would do the same if they had it to do over.

 

The thing I don't get is the 7 speed? WTF? When would you need a 7th gear? When you hit 100?

 

I've thought about this also. And, I'm inclined to agree with you.
Would adding a smaller rear sprocket and the DD-6 also give you an 'overdrive'? I've noticed the H-D catalog doesn't give tooth counts on their sprockets.

 

I got the Revtech 6 speed OD gear set in mine. I've had it in only about 2k so far, it's a little noisy in 6th but with the Redline fluid it's much quieter. The overdrive is AWESOME!! For the money you can't beat it.

 

Yes, but in that case why not go with the Baker OD-6?

 

It's actually for improved gear ratios throughout the range, but more so in 1st. 7th gear is the same ratio as the factory 6th gear.
