I've always been of the thought of changing all the fluids and filter before putting my bike away for the winter. I've always thought that having the bike sit all winter long with dirty oil from the previous riding season was a bad idea.

Some friends that I ride with have the completely opposite view. Store it dirty and then change the oil when you first take it out the following spring. Too much condensation can build up in the crank over the winter and spoil a fresh load of oil.

Any thoughts/opinions on this subject???

 

If you start your bike once in a while during storage, YES you will get condensation. Do NOT do this.

Dirty oil has all kinds of corrosive crap in there.
Better to store it with clean oil.

 

That's the right answer right there. Store it clean and avoid starting in between.

 

Store clean and run often during storage is what I do with our boat. It is also good to put stabilizer in the fuel.

 

What would be considered a good fuel stabilizer? Seafoam? Or are there specific stabilizers for bikes?

 

Seafoam is great stuff.
