Default How to tell if I have a sert or other

Ok guys I recently bought an 03 Road King with 7K miles on it. I have since put about 3K miles on it. I keep hearing about guys getting 44-46 MPG and the best i am getting is 37- 38 MPG so I am getting curious if it needs to be remapped (it was bought and owned in MI and now i have it in TX so is normal temperature as factor?).

The bike seems to run great with some occasional popping during deceleration. The bike pulls hard up to 110 mph after that i chicken out. :-)

This is all the information about the bike and mods i was given;

The original owner put a Big Bore Stage II on the bike when he purchased it - Key components include:
1. Larger Cam - goes from 88 cubic inches to 95 cubic inches
2. Stage II includes cams, cylinder, piston, clips, clutch spring, air cleaner and breather
3. He also added a Vance & Hines two into one Pro Pipe

The question I have is since it was done at the stealership when he bought it, should I assume that it was mapped by the dealer? Anyway to tell if there is a sert or power commander installed?

Thanks,
Jim

If it has a power commander it should be under the right side cover. If it has been updated via a SERT (this is not an installed device), you can ask the dealership to see if there has been a flash to the ECM.

You should have also got the SERT with the bike since it is "married" to that one bike.

i have about the same question.. i bought my bike 01 eg with 35k miles on it. had stock airbox and wrong stock mufflers with punched baffles that didnt fit(were pressfit not clamp at the headers)so i know it was diferant in a past life.but has stock cams in it so i dont think it has anything internal done. no tuner on it,went to a freedom hd canton oh. they said it had a cartridge download in it but they didnt use them anymore and had no idea what it was for.. it doesnt have a lot of low end power but pulls like a freight train once you get going.. have had it over 100 on the highway with plenty to go...i get 32mpg(seams low). i know bikes pretty well, but FI is still new to me..
Does any one know what that cartrige program is and what it does??

The older bikes were flashed (i.e. MAP downloaded) via a plug in memory stick/cartridge. Newer bikes are reprogrammed via a computer connected to the diagnostic plug. Off hand I dunno how you tell which down load you have, perhaps there is a cartridge in the bucket of parts you received with the bike. A dealer may be able to use his scan tool to read off the program version.
