I am wanting to plan long rides, or touring. I am a bit reluctant to ride my 883 Hugger for long rides or touring, and it may be a while till I can get my Heritage Softail Classic. I dont want to put to much pressure on the 883 motor, and be left stranded. How many of you have had or have an 883, and have had sucsess touring with the bike? I understand that comfort will be an issue, but I'm in no hurry and can make lots of rest stops. My bike has 8000 miles on it and has been well cared for, and runs great. Should I be reluctant to tour with it, or am I over worrying? Any help would be appreciated.

 

I would have absolutely no hesitation touring my 883L

Wouldn't be the least bit scared to take a Sportster 883 Cross country basically what mine still is other than done Stage 1 and 1200 Big Bore .. Are a lot more comfortable Bikes to do it with but are a lot of high mileage Sporty 883's around that have been all over the country .. Many Years Sportsters was all I ever owned and would take them Cross country all the time just be wary of your your fuel limits with the small tank ..

 

Go for it, you will never forget it!!!

 

I did many 500+ miles days on mine, it will go all day at 70, 80 mph. The only pain was stopping every 100 miles for gas. Get out and go for it.

The durability of the 883 is not an issue. They will run 24/7 at 80 mph. Put a larger gas tank on it and you will be most pleased.

Ask LizDC about touring on a Sporty. She goes all over the place, and enjoys the hell out of it.

You can ride that bike as hard as the law will let ya. You will not stress it a bit. :0

People tour and do long rides on single cylinder 650 dual purpose bikes!
Some even do it on 250's.

That guy is doing all 48 states and most of Canada on a 650, with lots of dirt riding as well.
An 883 would be a luxury.
No problem running 80 mph all day long for weeks on an 883.

Read some of the other trip reports on that site, like doing Europe and the middle east on an old hard tail chopper...

You guy's are making it real hard not to wait till spring! I'd love to just leave the Adirondacks in a week or two, and ride to Fla., Make my daughter's house my home base for the winter, and just tour the south and southwest till spring. Then head back home to the Adirondacks for the spring, summer, and fall. Wait! I have to wait till after deer season! I just might be riding in the snow till I get far enough south!!

 

I've done a 2000 mile trip on my 883 custom.

If I were to do it again i'd consider a windscreen even though i don't like the look.

Hanging on with wind in chest for 500 miles a day is tiring.

Changed the grips when I got home for some with more padding.

I'd do it again. The memories are better than the trip itself.

Only drama I had was mirror came loose and side cover clip fell off.
