Default Finally a solution to my flush mont LED gas caps

http://www.cycleoutfitters.com/produ...catalogId=1570

They aren't exactly flush, but they are low profile.

I have the HD flush mount LED gauge and matching pop-up cap.

LED's are mostly not working and look like R2-D2 lights when some are working and some aren't.

Pop-up gas cap needs constant lubrication to keep it working. Most of the time I have to pry a credit card under it to get it to "pop" up.

I hope to Jesus this works as advertised.

I've heard that the "newer" version of HD's work much better, but at nearly $200 I'm not going to risk it.

I'll actually be happier not to have all those blue lights glaring at me (when they chose to work).

Finally got these and got them installed. I think they look good. They aren't flush, but they are low profile. The single LED on the left side "cap" is amber and only comes on when you're low on fuel. There is a button on the bottom and you can set the level in which you want it to come on. Mine is set at 1 gallon.

Thats a nice setup. I have the flush mount HD setup and actually had to lightly sand the inner plastic on my gas lid and it no longer sticks or requires lube.

Do you have a tank lift? I like the feature of being able to set the float. My gauge is off by about a gallon because of my tank lift, so I just keep track of mileage, but the dash board gas idiot light is annoying.

Does use of this gauge leave the stock light out of the loop so to speak?

I'd love to dissect one of the H-D Flush LED units to see if I can figure out why they fail so often. Mine works most of the time, so I'm not ready to sacrifice it....yet.

For those thinking of buying the H-D ones, there is a xxxxxx.xxA version available now that doesn't seem to have the problems of the original. You have to be careful though because two of my local-ish dealers still had the original in stock and tried to sell them to me.

And how does one tell the difference?

Default Flush Caps

I've figured out that the cause of my gas cap "sticking" is that tiny o-ring on the top of the cap. I removed it last weekend and no worries so far. My led lights are still working fine except the low fuel light no longer comes on. That's O.K. with me as I found it annoying.
