Wondering if anyone can help me with an oil change issue with a 2006 Street Bob? I went to change oil today andafter draining the oil and replacing the filter, I went to fill the oil tank. After a littleover one quart in the oil tank, it overfilled. (I had assumed more oil than that had drained out into the can) Anyways, I pulled the drain plug again and gotvery little oil back out. The dip stick now registers as a little over full, but I can't get oil to drain...I measured the oil I had got out after first draining it and it was a little over one quart.Any suggestions???

 

Wow you have drained the wrong plug. you have drained primary or tranny ..better check manual before you start it ot ride it. danger here. I think 99% chance of this . good luck. I am sure others will chime in on this one with more help. Good luck .

 

no kidding, you pulled the wrong plugs. look in your owners manual or service manual if you have one. they both show the correct plugs locations. you have three. engine oil, trans and primary.

 

Pulling the wrong plug came to mind soI did look in the owners manual. The plug (as you sit on the bike) on the right side and the one the is vertical is the one I drained... Thisis the oil drain plug in the manual. There is another drain plug to the left which is horizontal, which I beleive is the tranny plug???Thanks for you help.

 

page 102 in the owners manual shows the horizontal one being the engine oil drain. The vertical one is the trans.

 

Back again. I just got done looking in my 2005 Dyna manual (from a previousbike I owned) and see that theoil and tranny drain plugs are diagramedjust the opposite (2005 shows tranny toright sidewith vertical plug etc..) as the ones in the 2006 dyna manual. If someone has a 2006 dyna manual, would you lookto see if it is diagramed the same? Thanks! I'm suspecting Idrained the tranny

 

To confirm, my manual page 102 / figure #34 shows (with an arrow pointing to it)the oil drain plug as thevertical drain plug, which is to the left of the horizontal plug in the picture???? Bad book I guess. Will be showing this to a dealer.Thanks

 

You could just check your dip stick for the tranny. If theres no oil on it then you have drained the tranny. I think they could have had better pics in the manual also.

 

yep manual sucks on the drain plugs.hell the book that came with the bike is better at the drain plugs. the book confused the heck out of me the first time i did fluids.

 

I did the same thing on my 06 street bob. I ended up wasting good mobil 1 v-twin oil having to dump it again.

I called the Harley Davidson customer service number in the owners manual and found out that Harley had a typo error in the 06' owners manual. basically they have the pictures of the trans drain plug and the oil drain plug switched. the guy on the phone was really cool and sent me a $30 in store credit to replace the oil and filter.

So it's not your fault you followed the owners manual to do your oil change it's Harley's fault for havinga typo errorin the owners manual. call the customer service number in the owners manual and see if they can do anything for you!!!
