Default Harley to start Factory Custom Order Program

It will be interesting to see how they run this program. Victory has had a custom order program for a number of years, but you had to have the bike ordered by a certain date.

Thats cool of them. Wonder how many people will actually go through with it. But it will help someone from impulse buying at the dealer and then finding later there are little things they would rather have different on their bike.

My main regret was not getting a bike with the 6th gear.

It makes perfect sense to me. Only question would be, can you design your own bike without all the EPA crap? Add the pipes, seat, stage 1 and power commander, wheels and whatever else you want. Start with the frame motor and trans and build it from there would be cool.

I figure it would have to be EPA compliant, so my guess is NO.

Mostly a marketing gimmick. I'll bet that factory customization is limited to specific items, like you can select wheels today. This may add a limited choice of seats, windshields or other minor items.

Bet it delays delivery by a couple months and price won't be any less than if you did it yourself or had the dealer do it. You can probably forget about keeping your take off parts too.

Great idea. They should have done it sooner. Will be nice to buy a bike and not waste money on take off parts.

I bet a big reason for this is to more accurately forecast production

I figured it would be similar to the custom builder they have now. The only difference is that you would order as configured direct. Currently you can choose current options and color etc and build it on paper but then thats it. All you can do is go look for that color and then see what parts the dealer has. I bet now that print out becomes a factory order.

I'd rather do it myself and save the money.

Probably closer to the truth than anyone wants us to know.
But, it would be nice to be able to expand color/scheme options..
