I recently bought a nice '05 Dyna, the only thing I didn't really like were the alloy wheels. I bought it with the intention of changing them out for wire wheels later. After pricing wire wheels, the alloys are starting to grow on me. Maybe better things to spend my money on. How do you guys feel about stock alloy wheels? Pros, cons, opinions, comment?

btw- it' a low mileage Super Glide with a Wide Glide front end, forward controls and Screamin' Eagle bologna cut slip-ons.

 

I have a '04 FXDL and I had them put the wire wheels when I purchased. I love the look but a pain to clean IMO.

 

Alloy wheels are tubeless,if you get a hole punched in one you can plug it and hobble home after you air it up. Wire wheels have tubes,you're stuck wherever you are.

 

I have a 2000 FXDX and I hate my wire wheels, I want to find somebody to swap with me for the stock 13 spoke mags

 

I traded my spoke wheels for some stock mags.

 

Alloy wheels will never loosen up and wobble the way some spoke wheels do, that was why I dumped the spokes, tired of messing with them.

 

I have an 06 Street Bob that I am taking the wire wheels off of soon. I am going with the Harley Magnum 5 Cut Back wheels. Besides being a pain to clean, the spoked wheels also require periodic truing. Also not sure how well they will hold up to big horsepower.

 

Spokes may look great to some but can be a real pain in the ****. I personally would not have them on my bike because of having to use a tube. If you get a puncture you are stuck. You also will lose air almost immediately which can be trouesome at 70 mph. Interestingly enough BMW uses tubess tires on the GS series bikes. Those I would use.

 

One of the reasons I bought the custom is because of the spokes. Just dont run over anything sharp.

 

it is on my short-list now to get some performance machine wheels instead of my spokes.
