Default Oceanside-Palomar Ride (Trip Report)

Took a nice ride with the 10 year old on MLK Monday and I figured I'd throw up the route to share and see if anyone bites on sharing their favorite roads/rides.

We pressed out 76 from Camp Pendleton up to Palomar (had S6/Palomar Mt Road and S7/East Grade Road pretty much to ourselves). It was our first time up to the Observatory (we usually press on 76 out to Julian/Borrego Springs). We came down East Grade to Lake Henshaw then over to 78 to meet the rest of the family at the San Diego Wild Animal Park for a few hours prior to heading home.

Phrogman (sorry, I can't bring myself to call a grown man Flipper!),
Great route! I have done the Palomar / Lake Henshaw roads many times with the Mission Valley Corvettes & Cobras group. I'd love to try it on 2 wheels. Here's a round-trip I organized a couple of years ago with my riding buddies. It's laid out as a round trip from SJC, but because we had people coming from all points, some took the back road by Pala (S?) and I-5 north home. There are so many great roads in inland SD. Have you ever been down by the border at Tecata? Highly recommended... and while you're in the area, stop by Jacumba Hot Springs Spa & Cantina on old Hwy 80.

Default Oceanside - Borrego Springs

Lucky, Yea unfortunately they don't give you call signs like "Badass" or "Maverick." Mine could be much worse. I took almost that same ride (starting from Oceanside) last April. My father and I went all the way out to Borrego Springs via Julian (on 78) then looped around 79 to Temecula shooting back down to the 15 to Oceanside.

Thanks for the info on Tecata and the Hot Springs. We go out to El Centro just about every month and I am always looking for back road ways to avoid the 5 and the 8. I will check out the Hot Springs on an upcoming trip.
