I have a 79' FXEF with a 4 speed stock tranny. I was wonder what the viscosity grade and amount of oil the trans should hold. I have a manual but all it gives me is harley part number for the oil and i cant seem to find where it says how much to fill it with. Any help is much appriciated.

 

I use the same oil in the tranny and motor, HD 60 wt but opinions vary among riders.

Tranny takes 1-1/2 pints (Section 7- page 18 in your manual)

Stand the bike upright, take out the level plug (little allen screw right behind the kicker) and fill it until it runs out the hole. Harley says to run in the tranny what you run in the engine. JMHO, YMMV, etc.

What he said , 50 or 60 wt motor oil , older manuals say this .
