Default Tour pack question for 2011 streetglide

A friend of mine just traded up to a 2011 Streetglide from a 2008 Streetglide.

He would like to use his old Tourpack but doesn't know what parts he would need to make the transfer. We know the docking kit and mounting bracket are different but we do we need to make the old tourpack mount to the new bracket.

I tried searching the forum but coudn't find any info. Any help help would be greatly appreciated.

He needs detachable mounting rack 53276-09A & the docking kit, he's going to have to drill some new holes in the tour pak to match the mounting holes on the new rack.

Should bolt right to the new rack on the newer bikes. All they did was make the newer style mouting points a little wider. Buddy of mine did the same thing on a 2010 and I don't remember him having to drill any holes.

I had to drill new holes going from an '08 to an '09 and you will need the spacer that goes in front.

In this picture it's #30

With respect, the hole patterns are different for the '09 and newer tour paks and '08 and older tour paks. New holes will be needed to mount the '08 tour pak on an '09 detachable rack. See this link for the different p/n's used for '09 and newer bikes compared to a tour pak the same color (e.g. vivid black) for '08 and older.

I don't know what Cigar Critic did or didn't do; perhaps he can post pics.

Texas Fat Boy,

Thanks for posting the chopped tour pak installation instructions; you posted while I was typing.

One point of clarification; if the tour pak is a King or Ultra tour pak '06 or newer, the bar you identify won't be needed since the bottom of those tour paks is basically flat, unlike the bottom of the chopped tour pak which has the large channels molded in the bottom to accommodate the pre-'09 racks that used a U-tube to mount, and now need that bar to "flatten" the mounting surface on the flat surface of the newer racks.

The OP didn't say whether the tour pak was chopped or not.

Red arrows points to holes I had to drill for the older tour pak rack Model # 53276-04.

Blue arrows point to "factory holes" that I "did not have to drill" in order to mount Model # 53276-09A.

I did purchase the new tour pak late 2010 so maybe the factory holes are new to the model? Also, I did not need that plate Texas is referring to. I'm not sure what it does?

1997-2008 Tour-Paks have a hole pattern for mounting different than 2009-2011 Tour-Paks.

We have worked on well over a hundred Tour-Paks, pre-08 and post-09.

CigarCritics pics looks correct.

btw, some pre-08 TP's have has many has 14 different holes drilled in them from the factory, but still only 5 of them are used for actual mounting.

For the OP, get the mounting bracket you want for the new SG, then you will be able to set the older TP on it and you will see where you need to drill the new holes.

Of course, there is always the option of getting a TP relocation kit to give the passenger some extra room...the template that comes with it will make it even easier to install the older TP on the newer mount.
