what somebody has into something means dick-all...it's worth what it's worth. if i were to try to get what my shovel has cost me in the last 15 years, including original purchase price, i would be asking the price of a new bike. whether it's worth it to you depends on how long you plan to keep it (if you always wanted a shovel and love them so much you'll keep this one for life, you're probably willing to pay more than somebody in buy and sell mode). 7000 is alot at this time, three years ago, maybe that would be different, but she looks a little rough, too. friend of mine just picked up a shovel for 4500 that looks better than this one appears to be cosmetically. of course, mechanically it's always a crap shoot

I bought a 1973 FLH a year ago for $7500.00. It is mostly stock with the exception of the seat (owner provided original seat) and an S&S Super E carburetor upgrade. Also came with bunch of chrome parts, new jack-stand and box of new oil and filters (see my garage). It needs the tank painted and original tires put back on but I was happy as that was the year I wanted and they aren't easy to find in relatively good stock condition. The bike runs strong and the mileage on it was around 8,000 when I bought it and all the numbers match. Was it worth $7,500? Probably not in the NADA book but it was for me because it was what I wanted. An old shovelhead is not the bike of choice if you're not handy with a wrench but they're a hell of a lot fun and the best sounding engine Harley ever made in my opinion. I may have paid more than book but I think I can get more than I paid for it if I keep it a few more years. Keep in mind that the more stock a shovelhead is, the higher its value. When I was looking for mine I saw several that looked really rough going for 11K to 12K.

Paid $5400 for a mostly stock running 77 back in May. Minor things like the seat, and has an S&S E. PO has replaced exhaust valves with hardened valves. I'm not worried about being 100% stock, especially when it comes to the braking and critical operating components- but I keep all the parts I take off so if I sell it the options are there for the new owner.

Awesome, thanks! That is a nice bike though.... looks great! Still, it is only worth what you are willing to spend on it. Good luck, I hope you get what you want for a good deal!
