Default Another cam thread....andrews tw 37

After all the reading and all the differing opinions, I'd like to hear from someone with a 88" stage 1 engine that actually has a andrews tw 37 installed on the bike. Local tuner says that with my 2005 road king and the way I ride he thinks the tw 37 will be a little better than the 26.. I have screaming eagle exhaust, vance and hines fuel pak and arlen ness big sucker on it now.. Thanks for the views

You didn't say how your ride so it's hard to be definitive with a response. I like the 26 it it's a touring bike; might consider the 37 in a softail but still partial to the 26 in a bone stock 88" engine. Ir you choose the 37, ask your tuner for his thoughts on running it with 4* advance gear. I'll throw in two more for ya, the SE204 or the Woods TW6, both with a 4* advance gear. You need to boost your corrected compression to get the most from those cams in a stock application.

Two things you should be thinking about as well. Change your inner cam bearings to Torrington B148s and 86 the FulePak. Cams will require better tuning to optimize. Your exhuast is not the best; consider some after market slipons like Cycle Shack or Rush;' eter yet a 2:1 system.

I had the Andrews 37 in my RK when it was an 88". I didn't like it. The bike was sluggish on the bottom end and then sort of had more power at around 2800.

If you have a heavy touring bike, loaded two up, I would recommend the 21. If you ride a RK or similar one up, the 26 might be good for ya.

I don't think they would do well in a stock 88", but if you were to think of going to 37's, big bore and some head work, I can show you a nice dyno sheet.

The 37's like more compression (which is why it would feel sluggish in a stock 88)...seen a lot of 95's w/ the 37's, minor head work, cometic .030 head gasket, good exhaust, and a tune be a very solid quick package..a very nice torque cam when done right.

I agree the 21 is a good choice for a touring rig if low-end and midrange power is the goal. The 26 is a bit more radical and ideally needs more compression, and I think the 37 would need even more compression to retain or improve bottom-end power. OTOH, if you retain stock compression and spend all your time above 3000 rpm the 26 or 37 would likely serve well, but expect them to be weak below that range. Remember that a stock TC88 has 8.7:1 CR, and that is what I would call low. Leaving it there reduces your cam options if you want to retain good low-end characteristics.

I understand Andrews makes a 48N conversion cam for the TC88 if you also install their cam-plate kit, and I think that would be my choice if I were to install cams in a TC88 with stock CR.

Yeah, I have the 37's in my 02 Fatboy with 97" S&S big bore kit, ported and polished heads, Feuling camchest conversion kit, and tuned with Dynojet Power Vision Tuner with Autotune Pro module and wideband O2s,and I absolutely love them! They come on strong from 2800 rpm all the way up!!
