Stainless Steel Braided Oil Cooler Hoses
Who has an oil cooler with the nice looking braided hoses or hose covers on your oil cooler? What's involved with including the SS braided line covers and nuts? Is there a kit that's already made up for this application?

You can also get matching stainless or colored hose clamps that have a cover that looks like a hose end fitting, check out Jeggs or Summitt, I'm sure there are others also. If you go with good hose and fittings like Russell, they are very expensive, you'll probably spend more than the oil cooler itself. It is also fairly time and labor intensive to build the hoses, and you do need suitable tools for hose building. The dimensions of the fittings will make the fitment very tight. I ordered all the stuff a year ago and still havent put it on, I need to drill and tap the cooler to accept the AN fittings, and make custom AN adapters for the oil filter adapter. Not sayin it cant be done, just a whole lot of money, time, and effort to be able to stand back and say damn those hoses look sweet.

The way I understand the other posts, it isn't so easy to do. What did you do to make it easy?
I don't mind paying a little extra if it will turn out right. I don't want to end up with a piece of high $$$ junk.

Stupid question. What is the best way to cut the braided hose you used. Also, just as an FYI, the newer HD oil coolers have metric fittings. The oil filter adapter has 10mm x 1.00 thread.

For cutting braided hose:
1. Tightly wrap the area of the hose to be cut with 2 layers of masking tape. Ideally you would like to make the cut in the center of the tape.
2. Make cut with a fine tooth hack saw. Do not remove tape yet.
3. Clean out any cutting debris.
4. Install fitting collar onto the hose
4. At this step you would remove the tape. Most of the time I just leave the tape in place and remove what is visible when the fittings are in place.. It will keep the will mesh from fraying while installing. Lubricate fitting and hose end and press in place.
5. Mock install the hose and fitting to their final place on the bike. Clock the fittings to their final position.
6. Tighten fitting/collar to spec. Remove any tape that is visible.
7. Blow out hose with air to ensure no debris.
8. Install on bike.

9. Make damn sure the SS Braided lines are not touching any electrical wires in any way or they will wear through the insulation and cause a problem.
