Default Ultra Classic Mods Questions

Hey everybody. I graduated from the Softail forum to the Touring forum this weekend! I sold my 2000 FXSTS Springer to a very nice gentleman and purchased a 2008 Candy Red Sunglow Ultra with 3K on it. I'm so stoked!
I have a question on a mod I would like to do. I want to remove the saddlebag guards. I want to remove the guards around the bags but leave the front vertical guards. What do you do about the holes in the front vertical guards that the bolts go through?

Spikes (my personal fave although I don't think they're in the sig pic), replacing the "grab" bars, chrome tape (works better than you'd think), hole plugs -- The sky is the limit.

Bad photo follows - They actually look much better than this...

I just ordered a set of guards without the holes and removed the old ones with holes and replaced with the new. Looks good now.

Someone else asked the same question in another thread.... here's what I wrote to him.

If you got em... leave em. I saw a guy drop his Ultra last summer and it rolled all the way to his fairing tip touching the ground, and far enough that tranny oil came out of the vent. Those surrounds saved his left bag...... didn't save his dignity though

I've got the Street Glide type fender on my Road glide, so I can't use the surrounds on my bags..... otherwise, I would have them. Seen them save several bags over the years.

They will even keep you from losing a bag if your 1/4 turns aren't latched fully.

Thanks for all the info. I think I am going to list them for sale in the classified area. If anybody knows somebody that is looking to sell the front guards without the holes have them contact me.

http://www.wintecfabrication.com -- #FX6042 if I recall... 18 threads per inch...? Would be worth checking - Fits the stock bolts. You'll need some sealing washers and a metal washer or two to fit 'em properly.
