Red face Gear Reduction Options on FL

I have a 2009 Street Glide. Wanted to change the stock overall gear ratio which is my understanding @ 2.89. My understanding to do this is I have two options:

Change the primary trans gear sprocket down from 32 to 30T

Or

Change the front belt drive pullet from 32 to 30T

My questions are:
  • What are the pros or cons of each option?
  • Would I get the same result doing either option?

Your options are: Change engine primary sprocket from 34 to a 30 sprocket(losing the compensator in the swap), change clutch primary sprocket from 46 to 49, change trans pulley from a 32 to a 31 or a 30 OR spend over 3 grand utilizing a Baker DD7 gearset.

My reading of this is there is a further option, of fitting a 68T rear pulley. Personally I would leave the primary gearing alone, as changing the clutch sprocket is a silly price and ditching the compensator doesn't seem wise!

If you go to 30/68 belt drive your overall will change to 3.07:1 and top gear will change from approx 27mph/1,000rpm to 24.5mph/1,000rpm. From what I can make out the stock belt will still fit when changing both pulleys.

There is more on this over in the Touring forum. Just search that forum for '68T'.

He already has the rear 68T pulley from the factory, it's an 09. And he can swap to a chain final drive keeping the IDS, good choice for those who have had belt breakage issues.

I have been looking for a chain drive my 09 -- some say an 08 chain conversion will work; does anyone know of any other options?
