Just bought a 2011 FLHTCU with cast aluminum wheels. After I wash it I get a white film or haze on the wheels. I tried never dull to get it off but it didn't work. Any suggestions?

 

I had those wheels on my 10 FLHTC, they suck. No clear coat on them, what the hell was Harley thinking? I traded for an 11 FLHTK with the chrome wheels, much easier to take care of. Mothers mag and aluminum polish works great though.

Never Dull and a little rubbing makes them look like brand new i do my 2008 Ultra bout once a month

 

I have used S100 cycle finish and it worked great. Very bright clean shine.

 

clean it up, put it on bike jack...some tunes....cold brew,,spin the wheel as you clean em up with Mothers mag and alum. polish..have fun..)

 

Has anyone sanded the roulette ones down? Like everyone used to do on the crotch rockets.....make them look like chrome. I'm bout ready to do it myself.

What are you using to wash your wheels/bike? Are you using regular car/motorcycle cleaning products or some type of a chemical cleaner?

The white film is usually a sign of a chemical reaction with the cleaner. Some wheel cleaners can damage the bare aluminum of the wheels. I've seen several reports of wheels getting that film or getting white spots that look like water spots that are difficult to remove.

The easiest way to get out of this is to find a cleaner that does not cause the spots. I've used Griot's car wash on my bikes and cars for years and I've never had any problems with the wheels. A good aluminum polish should remove the film if it isn't too deep. I have polished the wheels on my bike several times just to get them a little more shiny.

Once you get them clean, be sure to protect the finish with wax or a product especially designed for protecting wheels such as Wheel Shield or Wheel Armour (I use this) as these products are especially designed to protect wheels. I use Wheel Armour on my car and bike once or twice a year. It really helps keep build up off the wheels and the dust that gets on there is easily washed off.

Get rid of the stock HD brake pads and go with say, Lyndall pad, and the wheels will stay cleaner longer. Plus like someone else said, get them good and clean, give them a few coats of paste wax each year, wash them on a regular basis and they will stay looking good for a long time.
