Ok so I have a 2009 Nightster and am ready to upgrade the exhaust. Few questions, i could just take off the CHROME baffles and slip on some screaming eagles for around $350. or spend a little more and get some straight pipes (headers)......question of that....1. do I take off the crossover 2. do the oxygen sensors plug into new pipes 3. I want to keep mid controls, not much option for that application 4. do I need to re-map? Please share what you have done and if you like it! thanks

 

The Cycle Shack slip-ons are a good economical option to look at.

With them you keep the 'crossover", don't have to mess with the sensors or mids.

You should remap or get some xied's.

Depends on what application you go with. Some require the removal of the crossover pipe as it isn't needed with the new pipes, where as if you just do slip-ons the crossover pipe stays in place most times. Don't know of an applications where the O2 sensors wouldn't be used as this is a vital part of your fuel injection system. As for the re-map, you MAY be able to get away with the stock tune with just slip-ons, but most would probably recommend a tune when you change your exhaust or intake or both. Not saying you HAVE to, but it is your engine........

My setup.....I went with Vance and Hines slip-ons and fuel-pak. Power increase was noticeable and I LOVE the sound of my pipes. If I ever change back to stock, I can sell the mufflers and fuel-pak and make back some of my money.

I wouldn't recommend the Screamin Eagle Slip-Ons as you may be disappointed with the sound you get for the price you paid. There are plenty of options out there for mufflers that are cheaper, and IMHO sound and look much better.

 

Well, it all depends on the look, sound and performance you want. D&D makes some good exhausts that look great on a nightster; V&H seems to be the most commonly purchased for nightsters. For a decent price a friend of mine made me a full stainless system with equal length headers for great performance. The mufflers are rebuildable too. I paid under $500 total for the entire system including the work. He has several of those mufflers made and wants to do a limited run of these exhausts if there is enough demand. So instead of the same old thing I'd say give it a look and think about something different.

 

Or you can make your own "slip-ons" for 20 bucks or so.

Go to an Auto Zone or whatever and get two 1.75" to 2.25" exhaust reducers and two lengths of 2.25" exhaust tube, remove your slipons, weld on what you just bought and that's it. I do a TON of these for local guys. Sportsters, FLH's, Suzuki's...pretty much anything.



They sound great but for the guys that don't like em loud I make baffles for their application & weld them in.

i ran V&H straight shot slip ons on my 2010 nightster with out doing the fuelpak or a/c , and everything ran very well , i didn't like the sound though , it was very harsh , but apart from a little pop on throttling off it all worked fine , it never ran any leaner than with stock mufflers either , I'm getting rush slip ons for my new fat bob over the weekend , and the main dealer where i bought my bike last month said it will be fine with those , as long as they have baffles in them (not drag pipes), i asked about the warranty and they said it wont be affected , I'm not even getting the slip ons from them , so good impartial advice i think on there part , they,re a good bunch of guys at lakeside Harley Davidson

Slip on's are just that, a full exhaust system will require removal of the crossover on most models. No, you will not have to remap if you have any kind of baffle in there.
