Touring vs Softail/Dyna Gear ratios
I've seen the ratios specs among the various HD models. Nevertheless, my 6 speed FatBoy seems geared quite low relative to Touring Bikes I have seen, despite individual gear ratios being the same or close. Do Touring bikes have taller overall (final) gearing? My first gear especially seems like a ratio from my John Deere tractor. Just wondering aloud...

Thinking the tranny's ratios are close but seems like a couple yrs ago the touring platform actually when to a overall lower, higher number final.
Also I believe I read in 09 or 10 the touring bikes changed 1st gear.
Just found this link, it shows the diff.

It's late and the garage is locked up. I have the service manuals for the Softail, Dyna and Ultra. I will look them up tomorrow and post.
I will make a wild guess from riding each one that they are fairly close.

I'm a day late (story of my life) but here is the data for the gearing.
2020 Ultra ------------------ 2007 FXSTC--------2010 Dyna Superglide
1st 3.34 ------------------- 3.34---------3.34
2nd 2.31 ------------------- 2.31---------2.31
3rd 1.72 ------------------- 1.72----------1.72
4th 1.39------------------- 1.39----------1.39
5th 1.19 ------------------ 1.18-----------1.19
6th 1.00 ------------------ 1.00-----------1.00
Front Sprocket - 34 ------------------ 34---------34
Rear 68 ------------------ 66---------66
Final Drive Ratio= # of engine revs to revolve rear wheel 1 revolution
1st 9.593------------------ 9.31----------9.31
2nd 6.650 ------------------ 6.42----------6.454
3rd 4.938 ------------------ 4.77----------4.793
4th 4.00 ------------------ 3.93----------3.882
5th 3.407------------------ 3.28----------3.307
6th 2.875------------------ 2.79----------2.790
As you can see the Softail is a slightly taller geared bike which would be logical. But with less weight it gets going faster.
Now, I am curious about the Dyna gearing. Tomorrow maybe if I remember.

Excellent...thanks so much. It's weird. I just seem to have much less of a first gear than other 6 speeds I see on the road, and i have stock gearing. Also, I hear people say that they never use 6th under 80 and that it bogs the bike down at 65. Mine will pull like a rocket from 50.

The difference is the weight of the bike. Less weight means it can pull stronger at a lower speed in high gear.

I have three bikes with the TC96. The speed limit on Illinois state roads is 55. When I come to a hill in 6th gear and give a twist, they pull strong including the Ultra. I have a SE Stage I intake on all and a Cobra Fi2000R fuel pack with stock mufflers. So no major engine mods.
Even before the mods, I have never found a situation at 50 or more that I needed to down shift. I think that those that say they do are just blowing hot air.
Oh! the difference in the fifth gear between the 07 and 10 must be the new helical cut gear over the old straight cut one.

Pulls down to 60 mph even 2up easy now in 6th.
