Default automatic primary chain tensioners

recently I installed a chrome inner primary on my 06 roadking, while in there i installed a automatic primary chain tensioner, well come to find out after a few hundred miles the chain is to tight, so im going back in to set the chain properly, my question is this...is it fairley easy to compress and lock the tensioner so i can slide the assembly down?..is this a easy fix? i appreciate all your input and thanks in advance.

Wrap a nylon ty-rap around it and then cinch it down. Once out it's easy to compress further.

How does the tensioner get too tight? Is there a design flaw there? How do you know if your chain is too tight? Is this fairly common? Thanks

i believe i dint leave enough play in the chain when i tightend down the tensioner..i check it today and i only had about a 1/4 in play in the chain, makes the pimary sound different too...so ill go back in and compress the tensioner and lower it to give the chain more play..5/8 to 7/8 for my RKC being to tight can cause the parts to wear more quickley also
