This is my husbands, wish it were mine! lol I had just a few questions. First off he just got this about 3 days ago and cant ride it, and it is killing him. Well i have tried to put insurance on it and well they always say the same thing, the vin doesnt match model or something like that, I checked the numbers on the frame and just below the headers. It all looks good. Not sure if its because it only has the 9 digits opposed to the now 17 digits on the models after 81'. I was thinking that was the issue. Next, bike runs really well having over 106,000 miles on it! runs great, prob. was rebuilt at some point cause it runs a little to well for its age and miles, but i was wondering it has the bendix carb, well the bike when idling low will stall. but i did notice if the bike was tipped to the side and not standing upright it would stall, but when it is lifted upright it will stall. I am thinking it is a float problem, either it needs adjusting or im leaning more towards just a rebuild. I would just like to know some of your opinions, it would be greatly appreciated

as far as the #'s that is wierd in NY you could just register it as a custom and as long as the frame had a vin on it you would be ok not sure how that works were you are

People insure old cars all the time so why not an old bike? DO a search for classic car insureance and see if they will insure a bike. As fae as the stalling issue-I would have to see what it's doing in person. That is a cool old bike and tha king and queen seat is crazy!

 

sweet lil ironhead. yeah it could be a float issue with the carb. has it been taken apart? was the bike purchased in another state where elvevation may come into play? may need to change the main jet, needle jet or the idle jet. could be the idle jet if it stalls at low rpm but hard to say. those old ironheads are finicky to say the least. as far as the bendix carb they went to 76 but early 76 then went to kehlin i think so it depends on when this bike was mfg.

Yea actuall my husband put in a new seal in the carb, it was leakin pretty bad, looks like it wasnt change since 1976! lol yea def. a bendix carb. Runs much better that the seals were changed in the carb, but will still stall. They seem pretty finicky for sure.
