Default 120R realistic hp/tq numbers

Seems that the only 120Rs that have 130+ numbers are tuned by dealerships. Some claim to have 120R 's with these high numbers. Could you imagine if they bumped the compression up with the hurricane heads and 267x cam with the 62mm throttle body/velocity stack. 120R's are putting out 120 numbers in reality you might get the 135 numbers with the above mentioned parts. I have two bikes with the 120R engines and out of 3 different tuners The local HD dealership is the only one that says 135+ numbers on one of the bikes. Two other tuners show 120 numbers and the bikes run better and stronger with their maps.

I don't have any bikes a 120R will fit! So my interest is born out of envy, but I have been following the various threads. If a dealer is able to get bigger numbers have you taken one of your bikes to one to see what they can do? There is at least one 120R on HDF showing 140/140. Fitting the parts you mention is likely to shift the power and torque to the right, which might not be a good thing.

We have a saying in Australia - "A good scorer will beat a good batsman every time".

One HD dealer did tune one of the 120R's and say high 130s. What does a dealer have to gain installing a SE120R with the owner all pumped up and tell him it is putting out 120/120. They install stage 2 103 kits and give a dyno sheet that says 107hp/116tq. In the SE catalog it states the 120R is a race engine capable of 135 numbers to the rear wheel, maybe it is capable of those numbers with the 12:1 compression pistons and 267 cam but it would not be to friendly out in traffic. 120Rs put out 120 numbers with the crate or kit set up with 10.5:1 Check any v-twin engine builders 120s maybe a little more than 1 hp per cubic inch on streetable versions. 120Rs are more powerfull than any of the other engine packages HD offers but still are a not very impressive next to a R&R billet engine or some of the other v-twin engine manufacturers,of course they are twice the money.

if you factor in cost the 120r at 120/120 and real world ride/reliablity (so far) the 120r is the hands down winner -- the other motors come in at 8k to 13k or more. Riding a touring bike above 110/120mph for a sustained period can get a little hairy

True,i paid 4300 for the first one i bought and my father paid 5k for the second one. I paid 5,312.00 for crate engine plus SE clutch which i took out,58mm throttle body, acrs, heavybreather, injectors on the first install. I had the tuner and Bosszilla already. Then i sprung for two Rivera complete clutchs with lockup head which were just under 2k for the pair. The 120Rs have way more sack than the stock engines but i think i need an R&R engine soon. I've read some posts about 120R owners claiming 140 hp and on 90F days being stuck in traffic with the engine not going into heat management. That is not possible with 10.5 compression i don't care how much fuel you dump into the engine.

Those speeds would be down right scary I reckon! However I have discussed on HDF before the benefits of much more torque. I don't have the figures to hand, but while I had my Dyna I modified it and significantly improved its performance, however only rode it solo. Using the same torque-to-weight ratio, if I want my dresser while 2-up to match acceleration of that Dyna I would need around 135TQ.

HP is a function of TQ, not the other way around. I would be happy to have even more TQ! Which is why I am so envious of those of you who can install a 120R, because as you say, a suitable billet motor such as an R&R 131 (I have already priced one!) ain't cheap.

"A good scorer will beat a good batsman every time".
And that means exactly what?

The biggest they make that fits a stock frame is their 131", which gives similar figures to some of the 'better' 120Rs. Bigger than that and the frame needs mods, to get in the rear cylinder.

However I think you will find Harley has the TC96 family after-market engine market stitched up and the only company allowed to copy them is JIMS, who make a 120 and 131. So you may find your choices seriously limited.
