Default 02 Road king oil change

I'm new to the Harley world and need a little help. This sounds like a really stupid question but how do you check the oil on a 02 Road King? Everybody says not to over fill with oil but when checking the dipstick I don't know which side of the dipstick to go by. The manual tells me to check the oil with the bike on the kick stand and when I pull the dipstick out the oil is higher on one side than the other. On the high side its above the full mark and on the low side its half way between add and full. So what side do I go by? Please help.

Is your bike leaning that much when it's on the stand? That's what I get out of your description of your question.

Are you looking at the cranckase or the tranny? The tranny fill is forward and below the oil fill.

Go by the one that says its halfway full. If it was overfilled then oil would be coming out of the air cleaner.

Mike

Ps. Use that side of the dipstick when checking the oil.

On the dipstick one side is oil level cold the other side is hot. When the oil is hot it will read a higher level.
