I have a 2009 street glide and need to change the upper slider cover. I have everything removed including the pinch bolt but things are not free yet. Is there a trick to this?

 

Have you removed the nut on top? Tap the fork down shoud come out.

 

there's a spring under that nut, get a rag over the top and some help or you could have a piece of metal flying, looking to hit the most expensive thing in your garage.

Remove the fork cap 1 3/8 wrench the spring in the fork tube is captive under this cap so there is no worry about flying parts...The fork tube should slide out after removing the cap.

 

I loosened the nut on top and removed the pinch bolt on the side. I tapped on top of the nut with light hammer while holding a board on the nut. Maybe I just need to hit it harder. As far as the spring under the nut, it seems to turn very easy. Will there be a lot of tension on this spring?

 

No, as long as you just remove the top nut. There will be no spring come out.

 

I will presume you have removed your front wheel, fender and calipers.

 

2 words Service Manual!

 

The "trick" is to use a Harley Davidson Service Manual when working on your Harley Davidson. If you don't use a manual, you WILL screw your bike up in some way.

 

Had to use a bit larger hammer and hit on the large nuts on top. There was a rust build up where the shock goes thru the tree holes. Before I re install the forks the holes will be thoroughly cleaned and a light film of anti sieze applied.
