Default Dreaded Inner Primary Bearing Failure

Well I just dropped off my Out of Warranty 2008 Road King Classic with 11,000 miles the off at the dealer to verify that my inner primary bearing is bad. Both the service manager and lead tech identified it within 5 seconds of me starting the bike. Its being taken apart to confirm there is no other problem, then it's wait and see what Harley Tech Support says on if they will authorize the work. I spoke with Harley Customer Service and got a reference number for my dealer to call once they know for sure the extent of the issue. Hopefully they can convince Harley to stand behind their product.

The MoCo paid for my entire IPB issue including new trans and inner primary cases, all gaskets, oils, fasteners, and labor. But the 06 Dynas had a design flaw where the alignment dowels were omitted from the cases. Not sure why yours would go but it is not the first bagger I have heard of having this issue.

Harley paid the bill for mine 100%. New Chrome inner primary cover, bearing and trans case. They also sprung for all labor and oil as well. Dealer installed new belt at the same time with no cost.

It's one of those things that you know will go eventually. But the hope is you won't have to replace until it's time to replace the belt. At 62K, my belt still looks pretty good.

so many bearing related problems.....I think they will step up rather than face continued bad PR about these bearings.....
