is there a sweeter 110 head being swapped out for the oem ones? are folks putting 120 heads on their 110 engines? are these failed machining runs?

seems odd so many used 110 heads for sale on ebay......any idea?

I thought I once saw a 103 screaming eagle racing kit that used a set of 110 heads.....any of these heads worth grabing to use on a 103?

 

Most of those 110 heads are the recalled heads that HD didn't want back. I have the MVA heads(ported version of the 110 and what comes on the 120R) on my 103 and although they flow very well most guys don't like where the power is with those big valves on a 103.

 

There is 10 heads and 2500 Harley bikes. Is that a lot of heads?

I dude I know bought a set of those 110 heads off e-bay and although he made real good power with them in his motor, he couldn't keep guides in them. I think the heads that had issues were the OEM 110's. The 110 heads that came in the SE kits were fine as far as I know, other than the seals sometimes not lasting very long.

 

yep...you got it....there was a recall on 110 heads due to valve guide slipping....harley didn't want the heads back...so of course..they appear on ebay as dealer low mile take offs with no mention of the recall defect.

 

I was told by the dealer that they just need the right size valve guides, then they are good to go. A friend of mine has over 20K miles on a repaired set.

 

Just wondering.... If that is the case, why did Harley not do just that?

 

I am not sure, but most people like new parts better than repaired parts. The down time would also be less. These heads came on 35K+ bikes and should be fixed fast and right I would think.

 

Um, my guess is that requires more skill than part swapping does, if you figure nationwide, its probably cheaper labor wise to just swap parts. You have to think, these heads dont cost Harley near what they sell them for to produce them
