Default How to remove pinstripe paint??????

Guys I have some pinstripe fames that were painted on a month or so ago. I would like to remove them.
Can you tell me what I can use to remove the paint without damaging the bike paint itself??

thanks!

Kevin

Have they been painted over the factory clearcoat? If so they can be removed by buffing with rubbing compound . Worst case, wet sanding with an ultrafine grit then buffing.

If you do not have experience doing this it is probably best to take it to a good detailer or body shop.

I had some pinstripe that I didn't like and I tried "Easy-Off Oven Cleaner". Worked great! Doesn't screw up the clear coat either....it's cheap too. The one in the yellow can. Just spray on, let it sit, rub off. Good luck!

Just an "agree" on the oven cleaner. It's actually the way that the "pro's" use to remove it! Just watch yourself with using it - you do NOT want it in your eyes, or very long on exposed skin. I'm not a "safety ****", but I will NOT use oven cleaner without having safety glasses on.

thanks so much. this sounds a bit safer to the clear coat than using a rubbing compound.

be careful as it will OXIDIZE aluminum and pit it in about 2 seconds...

You guys are crazy for using oven cleaner. It'll take more than the pin stripe if you're not careful. When I was restoring my old John Deere, I was told to spray it with oven cleaner, let it soak for a while and then hit it with a pressure washer. It worked... It stripped almost all of the old paint off. Since your pin striping is on the outside of the clearcoat, you can use very fine "polishing" compound and it should take it off with some elbow grease. Gasoline or Acetone will work too.
