Have seen recommendations to change a EVO Ignition module to one from a Sporty. My '97 module is original, just thinking I might want to have one in the bag on the long trips. Found this :#32466-95A IGNITION MODULE XL1200 & 883 95-97 SPORTSTER



Anyone done this ? Any specific year or part numbers for the "later" Evos like mine ? Also understand the advance curve is different ?

I have done it and it works just fine, I don't think the part number is too important. Mine came off a 98 Buell but I used a 96 one on another bike and it worked. The advance curves are more agressive and you will feel the difference.

I always wondered what the correct part number would be for this mod. I guess as long as it comes from a Sporty engine and the pins are the same, it makes no difference?

 

this was the "hot ticket" the first few years of the evo motor before the screaming eagle modules were available--- higher rev limit was the main benefit.

Money may be wiser spent on a Crane Hi4E ignition module ( uses stock pick up), plugs right in, options for multi spark, curves, rev limit etc. and gives easy option to add a second coil for single fire.

( the crane comes with 2 different plugs, order the correct version for your year bike)

I bet you could pick up a bucket load of Sporty Modules for the price of the Crane, last time I checked in NZ the ratio was around 4.5 used Sporty Modules to the Crane ;-)

 

Yea HG I've done it,it's a good thing.
Just find out where she pings on a hot day under load and back out a degree or two of ignition.

I needed to replace my original module on my 85 FXWG and was amazed to find the SE module is much cheaper than the OE at the dealership. Had to do the harness update for the SE module, but that's easy.

 

ok so if i am reading this right, a screaming eagle module off a spory will work on my heritage 1991, 1340.I have been looking on e-bay for one for the 1340 and very hard to come by.I belive my has the 7 pin,so I need a 7 pin or what Thanks
