I recently picked up a 883 and when i got it the carb was froze, so i took it apart and did a rebuild on it and noticed that the pin for the float in was lying in the bottom of the bowl. what kind of carb should i replace it with and what is the jet sizes i should be looking for. please help. thanks in advance.

 

Is the original carburetor not re-build able? If it can be rebuilt I would stick with what you have. Regarding jet sizes, they are matched to the intake and exhaust. Are the exhaust and intake systems stock or modified?

 

its all stock. the problem is the holes that the pin sits in, one side cracked off and the pin wont stay in. so i have gas leaking out of the carb.

 

there should be a set screw on the side that "cracked" off, that's what holds the pin in place.

 

Ok. what would be the carb i should be looking for? a CV 40mm? from all that i read i don't get an answer on what a stock carb for this bike is. what do you recommend?

The pin is part number 45 on the diagram, on the right side, there should be a screw next to the standoff for the float pin, if there's not a screw, see if there's a hole there for a screw and see if you can find one that fits, or get it from the dealer. It should be a pan head screw that will hold the pin in place.

 

sorry should have been more specific, the guides that the pin slide into on the actual carb is broke. the pin is there but the pin is only held in on one side. so the float doesn't sit straight and the float wont close all the way so the gas leaks out, also the fuel inlet is plastic and leaks out of there also.

 

where was the piece that snapped off? was it sitting in the fuel bowl? If the screw just came out, it's an easy fix, if a piece of aluminum broke off the actual body of the carb, you'll have to replace the whole body. Maybe ebay would have a used one for fairly cheap. If not, I personally would recommend a mikuni as a replacement, some others may chime in on a good carb replacement as well.

 

its broke off the body. what is the size of a stock carb for this?

 

no idea, it's a pretty common carb though, I don't remember what mine was before I switched to a mikuni.
