Can anyone tell me if the 1973 6 lug drum braked Servi-car came with a park brake, or how I could fit one?
Australian design rules say that all trikes must have a park brake.
Thanks in advance, Les.

Not absolutely sure on 1973, but I would thank it would be the same parking brake mounted on the foot brake pedal lever as on 1972 and earlier. My 1956 has this lever and as far as I know only difference in rear end and brakes is your 6 bolt brake drum pattern. You push the brake pedal down and lock in place with this parking brake lever. It locks the brakes hydraliclly.

Hope these pictures come through. If not "Palmer" book has a good enlarged photo of installed parking brake. Main part of lever mounts on brake pedal and there is a bracket (which I do not have) that mounts to floorboard strap. The teeth on lever catch on bracket when applied. These come up on ebay fairly regularly and are not expensive.

I believe you have to have at least six posts made to the board. Then it might take another day for photo access. The "Palmer" book I believe is "How to Restore Harley Davidson Motorcycles". Search Bruce Palmer as author. It is the bible of Harley restoration and readily available new or on Ebay.

Default Thanks

Thanks Busterman. I was wondering if someone could scan the photo in the Palmer book for me. I will certainly buy the book if I buy the bike.

Rocketman,

Check with the registration authority in your State. They should have a technical advice unit that can answer your questions. I know that the RTA in New South Wales has one.

You might find that your servicar does not need a handbrake if it originally did not come with one fitted by the manufacturer.

Don't let some local bloke pull the wool over your eyes. Get the drum from the Tech guys.

My 1973 X-GA. Police unit had the auto style parking brake (see lever standing up by seat.) & only year for disc front brake,,

Then to this. See parking brake handle down ward being OFF.

Front mechanical - rear brake pedal works well its a bit of a thing but you can make it happen - as a shop wont have a better idea in how

v twin sells the parts
