Well, after paying way too much money for a 427 rear and getting a wood screw 1000 miles after, I refuse to pay that kind of money for the OEM tires again.

I see that Metzler 880, the dunlop Elite 3, and a combination of Avon tires fit our bikes. I have seen a Fatbob with 880s on it and cosmetically (I know that is shallow) it does appeal to my tastes. Does anyone have pics with their Fatbob that has the other two alternate tires mounted that you could post?

I just called my local harley dealer the other day and they wanted $299 for a rear 427F alone not installed just the tire. I found one online at Latus Harley Davidson for $209 so I bought it. I checked two days ago and now the same tire i bought is now $259 and the front which i haven't bought yet was $170. Just a little info maybe you can get the OEM from them for a decent price.

 

Did my research and need tires next year for certain. On the front I'm putting on a Bridgestone Spitfire 150/80 for front and on the rear the Bridgestone Exedra 160/80. Speedo should stay the same and the rear Ex is made for a GoldWing which is 300 lbs. heavier and the GW guys say they are getting 12k or better. Had the same combo tires on an '09 Vulcan Nomad and it handled great and traded the bike with 9k on those tires and they still looked fine.

Why dont you put a patch on the tire then a new tube and good to go?? just askin...
And I NEVER have the dealer do tires on my ride...A local shop does tires for 25bucks labor.......

 

I'm with you on this one. The HD wanted 334.00 for a new tire when I ran over a screw. I said forget it. Went to the motorcycle superstore and got two of the brandnew Michilin commander II's for much less than the moco wanted for one. Love the commander II's look and how they feel in the corners. They are supposed to outlast the Metzlers, but we will hava to see about that since they are as I say brand new and not many if any replies from user yet. Anyway good luck.

 

HSB did you have to do any modifying to put a 200 on the rear? As I to am looking to get new tires. Just wondering. Thanks

 

I am looking to replace the tires on my Bob at 3600 miles (just don't like the look, performance).
Anyone tried the Bridgestone Battlax BT-020?
They are available in the same size as the Avon Cobra AVs but much cheaper. I had them on a Honda VFR Sport/Touring rig and LOVED them.

 

There is a few Fat Bob guys on here that are running 200 Avons with no modifications at all. But I think running the Avon tire is the key. Not all 200 tires are the same. Avons seems to run a little narrower than other brands.

 

This has me confused/concerned....
Why wouldn't all 200mm tires measure the same
If they don't, what is the point in giving the cross-section measurement?
