Put the words decel pop into the search feature above and you'll read about bike tuning, EFI remapping, lean conditions, etc.
I have some decel popping (mostly just gurgling) and actually love it.
Yeah, what Torquey said. With the slips you have to make other choices which you will learn from taking Torquey's advice but that isn't the whole reason for the decel. Question is whether your new slip-ons have baffles in them. No baffles, then that is your reason for decel right there. You want to stop it but don't want to quiet the bike get Big City Thunder baffles. If there are baffles in your new slip-ons then Iceman is probably right.
if its popping when you decelerate (decel popping) its caused by fuel burning in the exhaust manifold or header. if thats the case a proper tune will also cure the problem
Thanks guys, I did some research and found that decel popping is quite common and not harmful. I did use some copper grease and new clamps when fitting the slip ons and the bike now sounds like the devil with a toothache....I can live with the popping

A properly tuned engine should not pop on decel. If the tune is right there will be no rich or lean conditions that will generate decel popping. That means that the popping is the result of intake or exhaust leaks. If those are sealed and the engine has a good tune, no popping. Some claim to like the popping but I am thinking they like it because they don't know how to get rid of it but would if they could. Decel popping is annoying; I hate it almost as much as I hate valve train noise but that's JMHO.
