Default Passenger footpeg install on XL883

Hey everybody,

I recently purchased my first HD, a 2006 Sportster XL883. So far I am really enjoying the bike. I picked up a Sundowner 2up seat and the passenger footpeg kit.

Can anyone confirm whether I need to remove the exhaust in order to install the right side footpeg bracket? The instructions do not mention it, but I cannot tighten the bolt all of the way, because the exhaust is in the way. Any tricks to this?

Thanks a bunch.

I believe you can remove the 2x 9/16 head mounting bolts on the bottom of the each muffler, push the muffler down a bit and you should have enough room. Caution, you may damage the exhaust donut, be careful. Alex[&:]

No need to remove the exhaust to install the passenger footpegs on an 06 883. It's about a 3 minute install. Just pop out the plastic plug that's in the screw holes, 2 screws per peg. Piece of cake.

Oh, sorry I didn't read the entire post. Still working on the morning caffiene here. I think I must have used a socket and extension in order to get in the tight area to tighten that bolt. I'm certain I didn't do anything with the exhaust when I installed my passenger pegs.

Thanks for the heads up everyone.

I'll try a narrower extension and see if I can get it in there. I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Working on this bike brings back memories of working on my old Jeeps! I ended up grabbing the hex head socket with a pair of vice grips from above and tightened it that way.

I'll post some pictures soon.

Atta boy, I also have a Jeep. And yes, working on a Harley is similar.
