120R Questions

120R Questions
So, I've been following a couple threads on here and have been inspried to replace my 103 with a 120R.
I went to my local dealer today and asked some questions of the mechanic. Not sure I really liked what he had to say. I asked him if he could do the tuning and he said yes and he had done one recently. I asked him what kind of HP he got out of it. He said 103HP. He did say the owner had stock exhaust and a stock air cleaner.
He did mention the D&D Boarzilla exhaust, which is what I am considering. I asked about the SE Heavy Breather and he said it was no good. Odd, since it appears that most of the 120R setups with big numbers (125+) are running that part. Or at least that's what it looks like to me.
He did say that HD is working on a replacement TB, and they have one on order for another customer. If that doesn't work, HPI has a slick set-up that would work with injectors to match. I was ok with that part.
When I questioned the 103HP number, he told me that was about right, maybe a little more and that the 125HP that I was expecting would be a stretch and require a lot of work.
Does any of this make sense to anyone else? I'm about to spend $6k+ on the 120R and everything I need and this guy is shooting down my dream.
Please help before I abandon ship on this project.
Thanks,

Just because he's not telling you what you wanted to hear doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's talking about! You haven't learned enough yet, so take a little more time reading through the 120R threads here and sift through the info available. Quite a few of the big numbers are coming from modified 120Rs, whose owners couldn't leave them alone! By picking your way through those threads you can find a build that used a stock motor and got sensible numbers, to base your own build on. Then you can talk to your mech again.

I'd seriously look at a good 107 kit, it can be done for about 1/3 the cost and IMO the Hp/Tq in the end isnt that much different than most of the 120r unless they are putting a lot more into them.It isnt worth an extra $ 3000.00 +
Jamie is making 106/118 and 107/120 with his 107 kits, the basic kit is $1300 installed and dynoed by them $ 1900.00 with R/T shipping of $ 800.00 you could send your bike to them and for the install and still save $ 3000.00.

And Im sure there are others out there doing the same kind of numbers, look for some good engine builders in your area.
