I want to replace the stock speakers on my 08 Ultra Classic. Do I have to stay with the 2 Ohm rating or can I buy a marine grade 4 Ohm speaker?

 

You have to stay with a 2 ohm speaker if you are not changing the HK radio or adding a amp. If you add an amp or change the radio out then uyou can run 4 ohm speaker.

 

2 ohm is ideal. the radio will work fine with 4 ohm, but you will sacrifice just a bit of volume.

If you add an amp, be sure the speaker ohm ratings match the amp. Alot of systems designed as plug and play for the HD run 2 ohm speakers.

 

Thanks for the info. I do want to add a AMP. When I look at the J&M amps and speakers as well as others desighed for "motorcycle" or Harley the price is extreme. Just like with anything item for motorcycles, you pay a higher price.

Any suggestions on a quality 4 channel amp for the Ultra?

 

I did the Rockford PBR300X4 as many others have done. Can get it around $150.00 on ebay and Amazon. Very happy with the amp. It does only run 4 ohms. It will overheat running 2 ohms per Rockford tech.
I went with the biketronics 6.5" speakers for the front made by Hybrid Audio Technonlogies. I got a price match from Eastern Performance on them. They wanted $229.00 but match another price quote of $199.00 shipped. PM me if you want more info on that. Those speakers are a little pricey but include the mounting adaptors and have a lifetime warranty. They sound excellent.
I put the DXi650 Polk 6.5" in the rear pods. They are shallow enough to fit without any mods except to drill 4 new mouting holes. No cutting or adaptors needed. They also sound good. I was suprised by the Polks. Also put poly fill in the pods and Dynamat in the fairing.
I bought the mounting bracket from ezzell141@comcast.net which is very nice and allows you to mount the amp on top of radio and moves your CB and/or XM radio modules below the radio.

Ummm, the PBR 300x4 runs at 4 ohms, not 2 ohms. Says so right on on the RF website, I think you got it reversed.

 

Wow, I did type 2 ohms, meant 4 ohms. Glad you noticed that. I would have went with the Polk MM651 if it were rated at 2 ohms.

 

He had it right. I think you read it wrong

Me too, that's why I noticed. Now i'll be going with focal PC 165's most likely.
